Financial Literacy for a New Generation

Casera is a pioneer in educating young people about money management. We launched the first high school-based credit union in Manitoba — Titan Credit Union — at Transcona Collegiate in 1997 and established Lancer Credit Union at Dakota Collegiate in 2015.

Today, we’re proud partners in Make it Count, a fun and educational financial literacy program developed for K-8 schools by The Manitoba Securities Commission. With Casera’s support, students at H.S. Paul School in St. Vital are learning to save money and make wise financial decisions.

Beyond the H.S. Paul School setting, Make it Count also provides a public website filled with activities and tips to help parents and their kids incorporate money management lessons into their daily routines. For instance, a trip to the grocery store is the ideal time to talk to your children about the wide variety of purchasing decisions that can be made there. Before going to the supermarket, you could plan a lunch, prepare a budget, and collect coupons, then compare your options and costs when you’re in the aisles.

It is hoped that the Make it Count program will grow so that more young people can learn about financial literacy in a school setting.
